Our speaker this evening, pictured below, was Janne Ritskes of Shalom Small Homes Kemptville. Janne explained that these homes are being built to serve members of the community who are over the age of 55 and are in dire need of affordable housing. It was noted that over a third of the seniors in our community live below the poverty line. This venture is unique in that it is being built in partnership with the municipality and local businesses without government money. Donations of money, labour, and materials are enabling this build which will provide below market level to a few qualifying seniors. The initial built will consist of 4 units on land leased for a long term from the municipality for a token sum.
